Study guides
Which topics are covered?
Each of the seven key curriculum topics are covered:
- Musical terms and symbols
- Notation, clefs and intervals
- Rhythm, rests and time signatures
- Keys and scales
- Chords, cadences and harmony
- Instruments and orchestration
- Composition
Each of these is broken down into several study guides, which take you gradually through the topic, from the basics right up to (and often a little beyond) what you will need to know for Grade Five Theory.
Who writes the study guides?
The Clements Theory study guides are written by skilled musicians and educators with many years experience both playing and composing music, and are revised regularly to remain as comprehensive, clear and easy-to-follow as possible. The study guides are managed and edited by the composer Tim Benjamin, who holds a doctorate in music (DPhil) from Oxford University, a first class degree from the Royal Northern College of Music, and of course Grade 5 Theory (along with Grade 8 in Theory, Piano, and Trombone - and top marks in A Level and GCSE Music!)
